It's 2013 Nintendo. How dense are you? One of the biggest features of next-gen consoles is connectivity, making it easier to interact and play with your friends.

Yet Nintendo still doesn't even have online multiplayer figured out yet? Geez.

What is with this whole online MP thing? Can't single player games exist anymore? "Oh that game I can't play online, it sucks!" Online is killing gaming. MP FPS games have taken over and the casuals with their repetitive crap are clotting the system.

The fact that games like NintendoLand and SuperMario3DWorld are pretty much perfect for online, and DON'T have it is a problem.

It's rather funny because games like Luigi's Mansion 2 on the 3DS have online, and I would assume WiiU has a better online network than 3DS, so it makes no sense.

A lot of people I've played with online are lucky they're not within arm's reach for me to throat punch them. >_>

I really don't see the point of having this topic again. We already know that the developers thought that online play would be an inferior experience for these games.

As far as Pikmin 3 goes, they say it's because of the lack of proper communication. I for one can agree, for the most part; not being able to give gestures that your friend will see in peripherals and the common latency involved in online telecommunication could offset the quicker pace of the strategy involved.

And for Super Mario 3D World...I just don't see how online is a good idea for this game at all. Inconsistency in either player's internet would affect a platformer such as this much more than a shooter such as Battlefield.

TL;DR: The primary focus of Nintendo seems to making games that WORK without experience breaking problems...Which for the most part, involving the internet can make happen.

No loss.

Who wants to play games online and have whiny voiced foul-mouthed American kids yelling and screaming at them?

If you want to play online, go play that game all the children play. CoD!
With Kinect you are the tool, Microsoft's tool. Now dance puppet, dance!

Go play other games. Do you have to rely on Nintendo for your online gaming experience? No, you don't. So what's the problem?

Pikmin 3 has online leaderboards, if that helps, which it probably doesn't.

I might give you NintendoLand as an example of a game that would be enhanced by online, but 3DLand almost certainly wouldn't be.

In general, how much a game needs online is a factor of how central multiplayer is to the main experience. If the game is largely a single-player game with a bonus multiplayer mode, online is largely unnecessary (this is true of both Pikmin 3 and the Mario games). Nintendoland, however, is 25% multiplayer-focused content, with a further 25% supporting multiplayer, so you can make a better case for it here. That being said, the nature of the asynchronous multiplayer might not translate all that well to online in some of the cases.
