The force at which I facepalmed myself when I read this topic again is more powerful than both the ps3 and wiiu combined.

QUICK! Someone get this man to Sega! They can use his awesome power to make a Dreamcast 2!
To be fair, the overall plot of the MGS series sounds like it was written by a 7 year old on amphetamines.-CrystalKing5426

Well thanks im happy to hear that WiiU can handle something as good as The Last of Us, i hope we get a game like that some time.
I'm handsome too ;)

Yes, but not by a lot. It should be able to handle any engine that PS3 can run, but it will take some effort to port the engine over and right now most companies don't think it's worth it, particularly if we're talking about old engines that are near the end of their lifecycles. - Watch me beat "NES Yume Penguin Monogatari" - My backloggery

The architecture of the Wii U is different from the PS3/360. The engines made for the 360 have had 7+ years of tweaking to get them to do what they do now. It's not something that they can move over and get running in a day. One thing I noticed is that we know that FB2 doesn't work well on the Wii U, but there have been no games involving EA's Frostbite engine, version 2, on any other next-gen system. They're all using FB3. If you ask me, FB2 must not work well on those either, which is likely why EA flip-flopped in their remark concerning FB3 on the Wii U (which originally was said it would not work because FB2 didn't work well on it).

Different engines are built for different configurations, and require time to port. - Lazer Light Studios - Home of the MM2 PTC project

I believe the ps3/360 have the stronger cpu but wiiU has a stronger gpu so cpu heavy engines built for ps3/360 run poorly on wiiU.

Here you go TC the Doc does a good job explaining.

Want to see how stupid your question?

"Is an I7 more powerful than a Pentium 2?"

Of course it's more powerful, technology improves parabolically. Besides the faster processor, more RAM, stronger video chip, the way the pipeline works, and other architectural babble you don't need to understand, the biggest difference between the Wii U and seven year old machines is that there's a large cache of eDRAM - it's basically memory on steroids. You can make it do literally anything you want without taxing the machines resources, like nearly-free AA and AF (makes games look prettier).

Sorry if I made you feel terrible, but anybody who thinks the Wii U is weaker than old machines is delusional.

Whether it's stronger than the Xbox 180 and PS4 is a different matter, though I would say it won't be much of a difference if the developers can take advantage of the 32mb of eDRAM.

Wii U is more powerful
PS3 or Xbox 360 engines won't play well with a Wii U.
For the Wii U to get the most out of it's hardware, it would need it's own version of an engine.

But why?
Im not keen on the subject, but why did Nintendo made a console hard to develope on?

they didnt devs just lazy

It's more powerful than the PS3. The question is, is it more powerful enough to matter? It's certainly not at PS4 levels, and so far, nothing I've seen on the Wii U indicates technical superiority over the PS3. Perhaps in a few years when the familiarity with the system is greater we'll see such things, but then again the other two next gen consoles are going to come out of the gate at higher specs as well.
