"The article also does not include the events of Metroid: Other M; since that game was released, its story and characters have become impossible to resolve with the rest of the franchise"

As terrible as Other M's story was, you can't just ignore because it is too hard to reconcile with the other games. If Nintendo considers it an official part of Metroid canon, then shouldn't it be included when writing an expansive essay on the story of said franchise?
You don't have time to ponder such questions, as Bruce Willis has just grabbed a jet plane.

No.
More villains need to be protagonists. BIS proves it can work.
Ridley, Ganondorf, Fawful, Bowser, and Dimentio all for their own games!

Then it's nothing but fanfiction.

Honestly I think if you try hard enough with re-interpretation, you can fit Other M in just fine.

If Nintendo considers Other M canon, than Other M is the only game in the franchise - that's how hard it is to reconcile with the other games.
Gaming is like a pair of boobs - Sony and Microsoft fight over whos boobs look more realistic, while Nintendo is about having fun with them - Walkiethrougie

You can fit it fine without messing with the story.
