Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think graphical power is Nintendo's problem.

It's memory limitations.

N64 was somewhat more powerful than PS1, but the cartridge had such little memory that it couldn't handle the more complex games. That was why PS1 got the majority of 3rd party.

Cycle repeats itself with PS2. Gamecube was the 2nd most powerful console, but once again, the mini disks had such little memory that it couldn't handle the complex games. I'm sure Gamecube was powerful enough graphically for GTA, for example, but it didn't have enough memory to play the game.

Same with Wii. Except that was both memory limitations and graphical limitations.

And it seems Wii U might have the same problem again.

It's the memory. That is Nintendo's problem.

Thoughts?

You're spot-on about everything.

Except the Wii U.

What memory, or in this case really, disc space, limitations does the Wii U have? It can go 25GB and its somewhere around blu-ray.

I actually had the idea for a while.

But your comment in my other topic inspired me.

So thanks!

First off, you're confusing memory and storage.

Secondly, I think that everyone this time around is using a variation of blu-ray. Nintendo has barely used the current disc capacity --- if they need to, they can always go dual-layer like with SSBB.

N64-like Expansion pack for Wii U.

1. make it optional, for higher resolution and extra details, but mandatory for certain games

2. bundle it with game to offset cost

3. ?????

4. Profit

I don't know.

It's why I said "might".

That's not memory, that's storage.

Storage won't be a problem for Nintendo this time around, but memory could be.

Gamecube did get open world games though, like True Crime.
