I know that sounds like a crazy/stupid question.. hear me out.

I can get a Wii U for $100 that works just fine, but does NOT come with the touch screen gamepad. I would have to buy a pro controller and I already have a wii controller. My question is, just for basic function, is the tablet gamepad REQUIRED for me to get games running, etc... and what games do require the tablet pad which I wouldn't be able to play without one.

Thank you all in advance.

You will not have access to the e-shop or change settings it is a bad deal!
Look inside the box, live outside of it.

Yes, it's required. Don't buy it. You're going to be ripped off.

You can't even start the system without the pad so you would be throwing the $100 away as you would be having to buy a pad for $150ish

Not a problem. That's what these boards are really for, though most seem to forget that.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother if the system didn't have the game pad. Some games use it more extensively than others. For example, ZombiU uses the hell out of it, and it is required to play the game, whereas from what I've seen New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U don't even bother. I can't really say anything about the other Nintendo games, though.

I also find the game pad to be quite comfortable to use, but that's just me.
