Programmable AI, costumes, items... um, what? THIS is the big strategy Nintendo? I hope for far better amiibo integration in the future as the current slew of games do a piss-poor job of using them to their full potential. They look nice on my shelf but they aren't exactly comparable to a skylanders or infinity figure. If you hop on the bandwagon, do it right, don't do it far worse and expect the same results.

My biggest complaint, is that the amiibos will probably do very well and Nintendo will think this is all we want which ticks me off to no end. Why can't Nintendo fans want more instead of settling for less all the time? Amiibo integration right now is horrid and I feel like if amiibo bombs we can get games that actually use amiibo well, like an nintendo infinity or something.

tl;dr version: Half-assing a product to turn around the wii u is a bad idea that I hope nintendo learns from.

Skylanders and Infinity only work for one game, so it's obvious that they will do more in those games,

The difference is that SkyL. and Inf. NEED the figurines, or else you can't play. If they were to do less than what they do, it'd be horrible.

Amiibos aren't essential, nor are they needed. They're little addons that bring a little something to the game.

Plus, they work in a variety of games.

Of course they won't be comparable to Skylanders and Infinity if you compare it with one game.

Skylanders would play fine without the figures. They're essentially disc locked DLC, that's essential to play the game.

Nintendo is actually giving you the game you payed for, whcih is mor e than skylanders

But wasn't it announced that Amiibos would work with one game at a time?

The thing is that if integration goes too far as to being mandatory, people will b**** about physical dlc and what not.

They can store data (SATs, etc.) for one game at a time, but all games may not need to save things to the figures themselves. Some may save a character rather than a specific figure to the game save file so you can use any Mario, Yoshi, etc. Amiibos and resume with that character or to unlock something it just needs to read that a specific amiibo is present and nothing more.

This. So much. People are ALREADY complaining that the Link Amiibo is $13 physical DLC to unlock the spinner in Hyrule Warriors. If Nintendo were to go FARTHER than this it would backfire and piss a lot of people off, even though people don't seem to understand the simple fact that Amiibos work across multiple, if not all compatible, games.

Still. Let's not set a precedent of pissing more people off. They way Nintendo is doing it right now is fine, kinda cool even. And if you desire a Skylanders/Infinity type of game, well then Nintendo can make that game at a later date. But that means Amiibos are EVEN BETTER than Skylanders or Infinity characters as not only to they the. Work in the collaboration game, but they work for other Nintendo games as well.

This all points to: Nintendo seems to know what they're doing with Amiibos. Hell they may have swayed me and I said "I'm not getting any of them as they're pointless." Now that they are out... I legitimately want a few.
