I have posted a topic about this a while ago, but I still do not fully grasp the topic. I have a few questions about how the bonus edition works because the disc I have has been damaged and unfortunately a single stage has stopped working entirely (Adder's Lair if you are curious), and I am thinking of getting a replacement disc, but I do not want to risk losing Metal Sonic and OutRun Bay by getting a version of the game that is not the Bonus Edition.

First, does there a exist a version of the game on the Wii U without he bonus edition? I've tried searching for such situation, but I haven't found any results of a Wii U version of the game without Metal Sonic or OutRun Bay.

Second, is the digital version a bonus edition? I've heard that it is, I just want to make sure.

Third, if I get another version of the game, assuming it is not a bonus edition version, will I still have Metal Sonic and OutRun Bay since save files are saved onto the Wii U and not the disc?

Any responses will be appreciated, thank you

On the Wii U eShop, it's $29.99 (the Sonic games occasionally go on sale). I own the digital version and Metal Sonic and Outrun Bay were available right away. Not sure about your save data.

OK, so I'll just get it digital after my Wii U comes back from repairs. Thank you

this is correct. this summer i received a new copy off ebay that had vanilla box art- no red "bonus edition" banner on front, no mention of extra bonus content on back. however, when i started it up all the extra content was in the game.

this game was also the first Wii U title i bought that came sealed in one of the cheapest, most amateur looking shrink wrap jobs i've seen and yet still turned out to be a legitimate copy. i remember doing some research and finding that there were a couple other games on the Wii U that came similarly wrapped, while the majority have the familiar y-fold seal.

it's Nintendo, always buy physical. Xbox seems to be the only console to get digital right

Tell that to Sonic. He got digital wrong with Sonic Lost World (expired US Wii U Deadly Six Edition bonuses) and Sonic Generations (preorder exclusive US PS3/360 Casino Night).
