Alright, so I decided to make a topic about this to stop at least some of the confusion. With 1.8 around the corner (Okay maybe not around the corner. Xbox still doesn't have 1.7.3 yet..) I thought I should make the topic.
Adventure Mode is an upcoming feature on the PC version, scheduled to come out in 1.3. It is still highly in development and we don't know what kind of things will be in it. Other than the fact that you can't destroy blocks. It has been talked about since before the Adventure Update so the two were often confused.
Adventure Update is 1.8 (and to some point, 1.9/1.0) and is one of the biggest updates in Minecraft. It would take a long time to list them all so...
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history/Beta Look at the 1.8 section of that and.. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history
Look at the 1.0 section of that.
Hopefully this will stop some of the "Whats in adventure mode" or "Adventure mode coming in 1.8?" topics.
I'll just have to copy/paste this topic again I guess. In hindsight it wasn't really the best time to post it. But a lot of people are forgetting about of 1.7 (I'll never forget you pistons...) and looking forward to 1.8.
You see, Minecraft has gone by many stages. Alpha, Beta, Release, among others. At each stage, the number is reverted back to 1.0.
So when someone says 1.8, they usually say Beta 1.8. Beta 1.8 was the final complete update of Beta version..Release (The stage minecraft is currently in.) started back at 1.0. Then went to 1.1. Then to 1.2.5. Then 1.3 will be coming up, etc.
To avoid some of the confusion, people usually say "Beta 1.3" or "Alpha 1.2".
I hope I explained that well and didn't look like an idiot. >_>.
