I would also add Konami and Techmo-Koei characters as potentials too... I believe Bomberman is owned by one of these companies...

Konami characters were in Smash (Solid Snake), so given they're still close in some respects, I could see Simon Belmont from Castlevania as a potential inclusion, or even Metal Gear Rising characters....

If Capcom is involved Megaman will somehow get cut and Trish will be there for no reason at all.

Ahhhh, i take it thats a reference too Capcoms neglect of Megaman? lol! So very true... But also very sad... Sigh.....

I can't imaging Mario in a traditional fighting game.
There just needs to be more games out there (if any) that's a good middle-ground between a traditional fighter and Smash. (and without a stupid "turn around" button!)
