He's a Lucario clone. Mario's projectiles bounce. Ryu's fireballs travel straight across the screen, just like Lucario's. Also, the Shoryuken has more in common with Lucario's recovery than Mario's. A signature aspect of the Shoryuken is that it gives Ryu temporarily invincibility and carries him upward. Lucario's recovery also grants temporary invincibility while moving upward. Finally, Ryu's ability to stop opponents' attacks with a parry or focus attack is a ripoff of Lucario's counter.

Ryu is a Lucario clone. Therefore he has no place in this game.

Anyone is a clone when you speak in broad generalizations. I'm on a horse.

Ryu Isn't a Mario clone! Pizza is a vegetable! Pluto isn't a Planet!

People can declare many things, but it doesn't make them true.

I miss you Pluto :c

I don't know. Somebody said Little Mac would be a Marth clone. And Mac is a Dudley clone. Therefore Marth may already have Dudley's moveset.

Bravo, sir.

Anyone is a clone when you speak in broad generalizations.

This is something I say frequently. And not just about character (but of course replace the nouns depending on the conversation). People too frequently talk about how things are exactly the same while speaking in broad generalizations.

Cars are exactly like rabbits because they are both known for moving fast.
