No, I think Rockstar took their time with this gen to be sure they won't go down to the level Saint's Row is at now.

Rockstar is trying to reach different heights. To tell dramatic story that people can relate to using games as the medium.

Badass female character does that fit that bill.

I certainly WANT female lead character in GTA game. I just want it through what Rockstar is trying to do. Something more down to earth. A woman actually being a woman, not a man with high pitched voice and boobs. Too often female leads in gaming is nothing more than that aside from few feminine animations.

If the story revolves around situations and setting that can portray something only a female character can really sell it, then I'm all for it.

Like a life of a hooker, and how she tries to escape that kind of life style by rising up the ranks or something. Or just getting into bigger mess while trying to escape that kind of life style. That would interest me more.

If I get female character that acts like Al Pacino in Scarface, then I'm completely against the idea.

This was the perfect opportunity to try out a female lead. It's understandably risky making a woman the solo lead in a game like this. People might not warm to it or accept it, but 1 out of 3 was worth trying. It would definitely bring something new to the table.

What if it didn't work?

"Oh well at least we have two other protagonists that go down well"

The perfect time for Rockstar to introduce a female protagonist would be in another DS spinoff.
