Recently my forum friend wants to play fighters at a competent level and asked which game he should start on.

One of my other forum friends says he should try Blazblue or Guilty Gears but I argued those are way too intimidating for a beginner.

So besides Street Fighter, what would be a good fighting game for him?

Street Fighter. No real reason to choose anything else.

As far as beginners go, I think SFxT would be a good game. It's a happy medium between Marvel and traditional SF.

Your friend can learn footsies, pokes, crossups, etc., then go into learning combos, team/meter management and synergy.

It's faster than SF4, yet not as chaotic as Marvel.

Honestly either this or MK9. For some reason, I chose to get somewhat decent at this game(maybe cause I like anime fighters...Kappa) and MK9 but I just can't get good at games like Street Fighter no matter what it seems.

That could change though since I seem to doing ok in SFXT13 since I re-bought it last week.

Honestly either this or MK9.

This would be a terrible game for a beginner. Would give them awful fundamentals.

I second this.

Have him try SF4/SFxT or Blazblue.
