I am an RPG fan, though I do like stories from FPS. I mainly don't play them, because of the generic game play aspects. My brother, however, does like both, but then again, my brother is someone who loves many different types of games. People can like both and for different reasons. My dad played DOOM and RPGs back in the 90s, while my younger brother doesn't like RPGs. It's all about if you have patience for RPGs as they are longer games by nature, while FPS really aren't. Basically, it was kind of ... not smart to limit someone's response, if you do like both, why? It offers different game play, nothing wrong with that. This shouldn't be about RPG vs FPS, because it isn't.

You can't really explore in a FPS, while in an RPG it's practically standard.
Thanks to my dislike of Final Fantasy XIII, I looked back on ALL Final Fantasy games and now which one I like for what reason. Angry blame XIII.

Since I'm not able to say both, I'll say RPG. Gunplay is lots of fun, but dialogue and character progression are what I really enjoy.

I am both, you will not stop me from saying that.
DS2 improves on DS in nearly every single way. problem with DS2 is that you're having too much fun to be scared.~sc0ttmst

FPS fan. I prefer the first person style, expecially when it's done with correct perspective like in F.E.A.R. and Battlefield.

RPGs are cool, but I don't like a lot of them. Too generic, gameplay mechanics I dislike that get on my nerves, or visuals and character designs that don't interest me.

There are other factors, but those are the main ones.

Lol @ all the negative response to this original topic. What a bunch of blowhards.
ITT: "What's a hypothetical?"

Forced to choose it'd be RPG all the way.

Both.

I've played and enjoyed my fair share of Final Fantasy games (1, 2, 7, 10, 10-2, 11, 12, 13, 13-2) as well as CoD (4, WaW, MW2, BLops, BLops2). Also a fan of racing games, military flight sims, survival horror, and open world sandbox games.

I'm a huge fan of first person RPGs (Skyrim, Oblivion, Borderlands, Dead Island, Fall Out...) It's certainly possible to be a FAN of both FPS and RPG. The mechanics are very similar, especially if you're like me and always play an archer-type in Elder Scrolls games.

You're probably the same type of person who says you can't be a fan of Classical music and Heavy Metal...
or Xbox and PS3...
or soccer and football...
or McDonald's and Burger King..
or M&Ms and Skittles...
or coffee and tea...
or Coke and Pepsi...

I'm not that picky.. I like em all. (except Pepsi.) lol

I now understand the problem with the Borderlands fanbase. It's not that they're entitled whiny CoD fans, they're actually just "not so smart."

He's asking which you PREFER of the two. Not which do you not hate.

Oh, you thought they made this game for you? You clearly bought the wrong game.

RPG. And I mean real RPG's with creating your own character, making choices that impact the story and the ending and a heavy focus on story. Not the Borderlands, Diablo-ish, "RPG-lite" where the only RPG elements are a level up system and "loot".
TheTygerfire is the love of my life.
I believe in the Straight Edge Savior and the Mizziah I love DLC :)
