I am really good with hammer, moderate with the great sword (mostly for beating Tigrex), and little else. I know some creatures are going to be MUCH easier with something like a lance, but that means moving up another weapon tree, farming for monster bone L's that don't drop etc. How many weapons do you all recommend being good at, and what should be the other weapons for a hammer user such as myself? I imagine lance and something quick for the faster monsters.

Shouldn't spending be adjusted for tax revenue, not the other way around?

Hammers and Lances have been my primaries since the PS2, but honestly I'm proficient with all weapons. (The SA not so much initially as it's a relatively new weapon type).

In this game I'm using DS the most, but again.....depends on the monster I'm fighting. Certain weapons are easier for certain monsters.

Typically, it's a good idea to become familiar with 2 or 3 different weapon types.

Since you're a hammer user, like myself...I'd also recommend a mobility weapon (Sns or DS) just to change it up once in awhile. LS works too I suppose, but it's not quite as mobile.

Lance/GL is also a good choice.
We trained harder than you today, and we're gonna party harder than you tonight. Mint with the crew.

honestly lance is like... the king of weapons.

You can hit pretty much anything on any monster and the tanky style of it is incredibly easy to learn and you can even get the two blocking skills with it to make you damn near invincible while learning

and learning bow or bowgun would give you a long range alternative

This time around I'm mostly lancing. Mostly because I have a hard time dodging underwater...

Previously I used mostly greatswords, hunting horns, and bows.

GS, LS and Bows are the focus for this playthrough.

Can competently use any weapon aside from Bowguns, SA, GL, and HH. Those were more my buddies' things.

All the melee weapons except Greatsword (never interested me) and Hunting Horn (haven't tried it yet, though if I had people to play multi with I'd probably go for it more, as kind of a support weapon).

I mastered lance, hammer, SA, and SnS in Tri, and I'm rolling with Longsword, Dual Blades, Gunlance, and SA (again, because it's that awesome) in 3U.

I've never once used a bowgun, and I tried a bow but didn't like it - I used the Hunter's Bow II against Royal Ludroth while wearing Royal Ludroth armor, and holy crap did it take forever to kill... I might give it another shot sometime down the line, but right now I'm more focused on getting through the quests and upgrading my main weapons.
