When Sam asks Ellie what if those people are trapped inside, you know talking about the infected, Ellie is convinced that they're not, and Riley turning would have been a great way for her to come to that conclusion... but they totally glazed over that chance. >_____>

So now instead of us understanding her conviction we're left as confused as we were before. :|

Lots of stuff like this in LB where they could/should have expanded on or explained stuff but instead made us walk around in the Halloween shop (which granted was fun, but...)

There's no explanation needed there. It's subtext. How did Ellie come to that conclusion? Probably on her own, while observing infected. Their behavior is predictable, which means an individual's personality doesn't have any bearing on their behavioral patterns after infection. Maybe she reflected on it while Joel was sleeping when they were waiting for Tess. It's a conclusion she could have come to at any time. Or maybe she doesn't even believe what she said, and was just saying it to put Sam's mind at ease.

Not necessary but would have been nice.

But that wasn't the question. The question is what if they're still in there unable to control their bodies.

although she could've just been comforting sam, i hate it when people act like they know for a fact that people are gone. ellie did that in this and andrea did that in the walking dead. it's kind of annoying.
Currently playing PSASBR, Minecraft (PS3 Edition), Fallout New Vegas, The Last of Us, kind of trying to play Pokemon X

You know who didn't do it in Walking Dead? Hershel.

Look how THAT turned out.

Also this isn't a complaint exactly but what did Ellie do with the rifle? I thought it was pretty cool when you picked up the bow because it was like "oh that's where she got it" but then she gets the rifle, which she definitely doesn't have at the start of the main game winter portion.

Before LB, I always kind of thought she took Joel's bow and thought it was weird that Joel still had it after that.

you can make up whatever explanation you want,
maybe she leaves all her weapons except the bow back at the house because she prefers to hunt with just the bow

A bow is quieter to hunt with, and that is the safer option when you're alone.

the OP is talking about what happens in left behind. where she amasses a bunch of weapons even before the start of the main game's winter chapters
