It's calculated by an algorithm. They draw a Spinda with no spots at all and the computer adds orange spots as dictated by the Spinda's PV.

I'm sort of wondering if you guys that are calling gamefreak lazy realise that the back spritesonly looked bad when zoomed in.

i may be wrong but to my understanding if they made high res sprites that looked good zoomed in then you would lose the finer details of the sprite when zoomed out. and if you are wanting perfect sprites for close up and distant sprites i doubt you'll get it because they will take up WAY too much space.

despite all this i really wish that we don't pixelated sprites this time.
