...Nope. Even looking at them side-by-side, I still prefer the new one.
This. A million times. I like anime, but classic Dante is such a animuuuu stereotype.

He has the hair, the eyes, the facial structure, the cloths, the style, the expressions, etc. It's screaming animuuuuuuuuuuu.
Allen Walker wasn't a d-bag though, and still got some attention. Just not as much, which kind of proves some statements about 'Merica.

I'm just going to say a few things about original Dante's design, which I never seem to see on these boards... (Note: These are just generalizations)
1.) White hair, in Japan, signifies something supernatural/other worldly, such as gods/demons and hybrids.
2.) The color red is the color of heroic persons, in Japan, whereas the color blue is the color of more villainous persons. (which seems to be the opposite where I am, the US, which has blue for the goodguys and red for the bad, more often than not)
With those things in mind, original Dante isn't so much an "anime cliche" as he is a cultural representation... with some anime tropes attached, of course.
Hold your prana like "Gyuu", squeeze it like "Myuu" and harden it like "Gachi" -- Rider (Eco Rider Kanzenhan)
So let me get this straight. You take the anime version of Dante and say he looks like, well, an anime? Goddamn that s*** is unprecedented!
It's an anime, what else is he supposed to look like? Take the game version of him and his eyes and face look like any other normal video game character.
As for long coats and guns, if those are anime stereotypes then I suppose new Dante is also an anime stereotype, even tho he's not. I think you guys just don't have a very strong point.
The only reasonable thing you can say is that his clothes have a bunch of stuff on them to make them look cool, but that's a Japanese thing. It's not specific to anime. Happens in video games too.
Half demon...fights his brother...saves girls...white hair...red suit...uses huge swords....why does this sound familiar?
Oh yeah. :| Inuyasha.

The art work reminds me of an image of cosplayers, all as different incarnations of dante, like 8 over them where posing in a picture aiming their guns and the new design. They new one was the only one that was really close to source material.
But yeah, this is still just a case of "They changed it, now we don't like it" Doesn't matter if its good or not.
