“it had a red light (where the typical blue LED light) and had a message on the screen saying that the console had a very high temperature. The security case was opened and in two seconds the error message was removed and the light had returned to its normal color."

Good feature to have, there shouldn't be many issues with launch hardware this way.

Though short of a N64 falling to a power surge ive never had a console mess up itd still be nice for more safetys :3

Idiot kiosk designers not realizing that plastic case has next to no ventilation at all. No wonder it overheated, not to mention the case itself is really small.

The hot air has nowhere to go but back into the console intake vents and cycled through over and over again. lol

Yeah, they don't even seem to have holes, so...yeah.

The feature is a nice thing to have though...but I doubt it'd overheat too quickly in normal use

There are plenty of holes in that case, 4 across the top and 4 across the bottom, plenty of ventilation, most tv cabinets have less than that.
