Hey all, long story short - had a lightning strike that took out several of my TV's, DirecTV, BluRay player, and my Xbox One. Sucks bad. Anyways, with insurance, we have a deductible that we have to pay and after that they will cover the rest. My gaming TV I had before was a Vizio 42" 3d 120hz 1080p smart TV. It was pretty awesome for the short year and a half I had it. Now I am in the market for a new one and thinking about getting a nice 40 inch Samsung or something similar.

Any suggestions?

Also, bonus points for a good 55-60 inch screen for the living room.

Honestly, if you look for a Samsung of another Vizio with the similar specs as your last TV you couldn't really go wrong. Maybe think about checking out something 240hz. I'd say this time you should buy a good surge protector to go along with it.

I had a good surge protector. I believe the strike came through the phone lines, as our phone box outside had the sign blown off of it. From there, it went to the direct TV boxes since we had the phone line hooked up to it for caller ID. After that, the HDMI passthrough from the direct TV box probably got the Xbox :(

Anyways, I will look around for similar TV's. Thanks.

Sony KDL-42W653

42" Sony Bravia badboy, best 42" for it's money on the PLANET. it is the GAMER's choice and has the lowest lag input on it's competition.

Definitely this if input lag bothers you any. After reading here, I got a Samsung UN40EH5000. Love it too. The 2013 model of it is a smart tv if you want those features.
