The personal assistant on Windows Phone 8.1 is named after the fictional AI character in the Halo games, Cortana. Since the Halo franchise is now owned by Microsoft, the company decided it might be kind of cool to name its virtual assistant after the famous videogame character. They even got voice actor Jen Taylor back to voice Windows Phone 8.1's Cortana! Unfortunately, it seems Halo fans in the UK will miss out on Jen's skills.

According to Microsoft's Marcus Ash, Cortana in the UK won't sound just like Cortana in the game. Engadget points to tweets from Ash that confirm Cortana will have a British accent for UK users. We're sure some people would pass up the chance to have an personal assistant that sounds local in exchange for the real Cortana in their pocket, so we're hoping you'll be able to toggle between British Cortana and regular Cortana at will, but right now we don't know.

Perhaps more importantly, Ash confirmed that the preview of Cortana will roll out to the UK in a couple of weeks' time. Right now, the virtual PA is only available to users in the US.

Hell, my Nexus 4 has a British accent. Makes sense as I chose British English as my language so my phone would stop trying to claim I'm spelling words incorrectly.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.

Yup. Not only that but there's actually more than one American accent/dialect. Same in the U.K. Speaking socially, any way of speaking that is different to a group of people from their own can be classified as an accent. Gamertag: aGeorgeDivided
