Epic fight. The only way I was able to do it is with a super tanky build. I don't see how it's possible otherwise. Giant shield, lots of stamina, halberd, and just poke at them one at a time until they die one by one.

i did it with a pure FTH build at around level 50 or so.

i was using, like, a +3 fire longsword and drangleic shield. lets just say there was lots of running and rolling. and blocking. and lifegems.

did it my first try, at least.

I did it first try with a 2H greatsword and lots of rolling. No blocking.

I clumsily hit things with a mace until it all worked out.

Same, not by choice but because i'd always get invaded way before i could ever find a white summon sign. Probably cause they'd always get invaded before they could be summoned also. Anyway I did it with faith build, constant circling and whenever i had enough space let off a lightning spear or emit force. Fortunately they are very unlikely to get you unless you're attacking, so as long as you're patient it's not too bad.

Beat them first try solo as a mage build. I just chucked lightning at them, then dark orbs when I ran out of lighting. The fight to me seemed tailor made for casters, since the gargoyles are flying around everywhere, but spells can still hit them just as easily.

Without investing any points at all into VGR/END/VIT, and only wearing gloves and pants I still took 3 hits from them without dying.

Gargoyles in DS1 were also extremely easy for a caster. Adding more of them did not change anything. I was a bit worried when I saw that I had to fight more than 2 this time, but it ended the same.

That fight seemed impossible with a heavy weapon. By the time I recovered from a greatsword swing they had recovered and hit me before I could roll or get my shield up. It was a lot easier using a regular club and kiting them around. Great boss battle though.
