Considering the beauty of Grass/Fire/Water is the equality of the trio; dark is immune to psychic and thus has a relative upper hand.

What makes this especially dumb is that there actually IS another trio that's actually equatable to Grass/Fire/Water: Rock/Flying/Fighting. Each type resists one and is weak to the other. No immunities.

Of course the other aspect of Grass/Fire/Water that people seem to forget (for some reason) is that Grass resists Grass, Fire resists Fire and Water resists Water, which is another thing Dark/Psychic/Fighting misses out on, for Fighting at least. Then again, so does Rock/Flying/Fighting, but at least those three are all neutral against themselves, rather than having another inequality.

In summary, people who advocate Dark/Psychic/Fighting are by and large terrible and they probably smell bad.

Why does nobody bring it up? I mean it's a pretty obvious trio. The fact that I thought of it fifteen-odd years ago, as a seven-year-old, speaks to its simplicity.

It really doesn't take a genius to see it, it just takes a little free time.

I think the idea behind the secondary types was to counter the weaknesses.

Grass>Water - Dark<Fighting
Water>Fire - Fighting<Psychic
Fire>Grass - Psychic<Dark

Thinking about it that way, your rival would'nt have the advantage anymore. It would be even.

Grass/Rock - Dominates Fire
Fire/Flying - Now weak to both other starters
Water/Fighting - Meh

Grass/Fighting - 4x weak to the water starter
Fire/Rock - 4x weak to the water starter
Water/Flying - Untouchable

Grass/Flying - Okay
Fire/Fighting - Not again
Water/Rock - Destroyed by grass

Can you read?

Because my OP is completely about how Dark/Psychic/Fighting is a flawed translation of Grass/Fire/Water because of the immunity thrown in there.

I mean that is literally the entire point of the topic. I don't see how the entire point of a topic can go over the head of a literate person.

Would be cool if they gave us Rock/Flying/Fighting starters in a game. Except everyone would pick the flying pokemon.

GRASS/DARK, FIRE/PSYCHIC, and WATER/FIGHTING balances things out:

GRASS is weak to FIRE, but since you have DARK, you can use a move of that subtype to help yourself out against PSYCHIC

FIRE is weak to WATER, but since you have PSYCHIC, you can use a move of that subtype to help yourself out against FIGHTING.

WATER is weak to GRASS, but since you have FIGHTING, you can use a move of that subtype to help yourself out against DARK.
