Anyone ever thought to themselves "Where do Ditto come from?" You can't breed them together, so they don't come eggs, yet there are many, many Ditto in the world of Pokemon. The only explanation I can think of is the divide when they get to big like a cell. Anyone else have an explanation?

Common fan theory is that they're failed attempts to recreate Mew.

But who would fail enough times in a way that creates that many Ditto?

Maybe they're asexual? Then it would only take one...

They could be asexual. Or maybe, the clones developed into a Mew-like form but then degraded into the ooze that is Ditto. Or both.

It actually might be the reason why Mewtwo doesn't have transform. That element in the cloning process caused the DNA to be unstable which is why the other clones melted and became weaker.
