You're probably pronouncing it differently. The masculine Jean is one of the many variants of John and is pronounced with a zh sound, like treasure or Asia. It's an exceedingly common French name. Now, the feminine Jean derives from a different root (Jehanne as opposed to Jehan), and rhymes with lean.
