It's a very common misconception that Voltorb isn't very creative. Voltorb mimics Pokeballs, that world's treasure chests. It's a simple "treasure chest monster" more than uncreative when one remembers Pokemon is a RPG.

That's neat and all... but visually, based purely on looks, it's design is uncreative.

Yes, this argument has presented many times, however, Nintendo/GF treat it as a joke design instead of a serious design based off the mimic, which makes it far more "uncreative" "lackluster" or pure comical as a design.

At least Vanilluxe line isn't actually just ice cream, stalacmite/tite that looks like ice cream is pretty creative.

Calling Voltorb uncreative is literally calling all of Pokemon uncreative. The Pokeball is a creation designed for the series, and Voltorb is the living embodiment of that design. Is the Pokeball also uncreative?

Well... let's be honest here... it's a ball. You can't really do much with it.

Voltorb is a haunter trapped in a pokeball.
There is no button so he cannot escape, so he explodes in anger.

That's not even the same thing at all.

The concept of a capturing device is certainly not creative, there have been many monster breeder capture devices in many games, a ball is just a symbol of similar capture devices, and Voltorb is a mock/pun design based off of mimic/Poke'ball.

Even worse is it's evolution which is literally like a beachball, it could have changed colors to represent other Poke'balls to fit with the design, but they didn't which makes it more confusing as to why they didn't. (for Electrode I mean)

I thought it was just Tigerjackson that spewed random fan theories that have no actual evidence.
