It's because Gardevoir's name is french, and Kalos is based on France. Sorry if old news.

Since when did Pokemon have nationalities? Only time I ever recall that being stated was Arcanine's Gold Pokedex entry, which said it was of Chinese origin.

... I may have created a monster....

I meant nothing disparaging towards France or it's people, I meant that when GF was looking at old pokemon to retype to fairy, they saw Gardevoir and realized it's name was based on French, so it would be a good pokemon to have in Kalos, which is based on France.
