Most of the stuff I learned after gen 3, but here it is:

Paralyze 1/2ed speed.
Burn 1/2ed attack.
Confusion damage depended on your attack stat.
Critical hits ignored defense boosts.
Gyrados is actually a physical pokemon, thus hyper beam and hydro pump are kinda useless on him.
(These i learned pretty fast):
Magnemite as a matter a fact does not float, thus gets hit by ground moves.
Toxic damage doubles per turn.

I found out Azurill was a Normal type during Gen 5. It may change in Gen 6 anyway.

I remember the good old days when special Gyarados was not only an option, but pretty damn awesome. Then he spent two generations languishing because of the SpAtt/SpDef split and the lack of physical options before Gen IV came along and gave him some new toys.

Really? I seem to remember that Gen 3 Gyarados was pretty high OU.
