Never traded till I got a 3DS, which allowed me to trade with my DS Lite.

Where is the option that uses Pokemon Box R/S? That was the fastest way to mass transfer Pokemon between Gen 3 games.

I selected never transferred, but then noticed the Pal Park option was available. Oops

Other than that though, even when I have bought both versions (or all three versions), I don't recall every transferring outside of using the Pal Park.

I've traded and transferred over local wireless with siblings, and used the pal park. I've also traded with XD as a go-between in gen 3.

Also, when a friend isn't available for 4-5 transfer I use Pokecheck.
