I was just joking with the topic, obviously, but I do recall Empoleon ending up neutral against the other final form starters.

No, Torterra was a Ground type, remember?

Oh that's right, I was thinking Water resisted Ground. I always do that.

However, this also means that Game Freak has made one "strong" starter in the past, then. So it wouldn't be unprecedented to actually have Fire/Fairy owning the other two. (Going by the notion here that Grass/Ground would have been neutral to Fire/Fighting).

And it wasn't.

The fourth gen was a double-triangle, though admittedly you had to go off-STAB to complete it. Every starter had a way to deal 3x or more damage to both of the others.

Infernape could use Fire on Torterra and Fighting on Empoleon.
Torterra could use Ground on Infernape and Empoleon (both were weak to it).
Empoleon could use Water on Infernape and Ice (not STAB, but it hit a double weakness to do 4x damage instead of 3x) on Torterra.

Again, I thought Ground resisted Fire. Guess I'm not good with immunities.
