Chose Charmander as my starter for the added bit of challenge, and I'm surprised to find that the game is *actually* somewhat challenging, and requires a little grinding. Now, I haven't played a Gen I game since I first had them as a child when they came out, so it's a bit of a shocker. Between the level gaps and lack of variety, they give a bit of a workout. The games have definitely gotten easier over time--though I think having a larger variety of Pokemon made that an all right sacrifice.

Get Mankey to break the first gym.

The game suddenly becomes easier.

I wish they released the GBA games on the eShop.
