I've said it before and I will say it again: the best Pokemon get better with each passing Gen, and the worst get worse. Such is inevitable when natural evolution and experimentation is applied throughout many years of undergoing the creative process.
How do you argue that Gen 1 has the obvious elements of what is meant to be invoked when it has Pokemon like...
Bulbasaur line (doesn't look poisonous) Sandshrew line (doesn't look Ground) Nidoran (typing isn't apparent) Psyduck (name and fluff suggest Psychic) Mankey (Fighting is how?) Slowbro (most people don't know what it is) Hitmonlee/chan (most people don't know what they are) Lickitung (see above) Mr. Mime (typing is not apparent) Jynx (typing and origin not apparent) etc.
I can't really think of any Gen 5 design that doesn't have an apparent typing.
Also gj choosing one of the most elaborate designs to prove your argument.

I hope that TC knows that the blue and red mane are representing the hats of the Musketeers. The "balloon" face represents the youthful like how youthful d'Artagnan is. The whole look is about representing the young d'Artagnan. Also Ponyta is just a horse with fire manes (there are many stories about those horses). The adaptation of the 3 musketeers in pokemon in the form of "horses" is more creative than a horse on fire (horses on fire are even found in the Bible).
