So there will be over 700 Pokemons when counting new Pokemons, but how many of them will be catchable in X and Y? Hopefully atleast half.
What in the name of?

The regional dexes add up to 450, so take that with a grain of salt for version exclusives and all that.
Yes.

450 Pre-end game, I'm guessing around 500 in total. Nobody knows what's exclusive to each version and what not (apart from some gen 6 pokemon).

It has been noted that they are trying to bring back people who stopped playing after gen2. That is why you can choose the original starters and they mentioned A LOT of the original 150 will be available in this game.

I am excited to see that with at least 450 pokemon in this game they can easily fit in 100 pokemon from gen1, the 70 new ones and a ton from the other gens.

They grabbed my attention. I didn't like Gen 3 much and didn't like 5 at all. I didn't even bother to pick up Gen 4 (though I got taste of it in Heartgold). The new pokemon remind me a lot of Gen 1 and 2 this time (especially the names). As a person who MUCH prefers the first 2 gens, they've really grabbed my attention with X and Y and have a guaranteed day 1 purchase from me.

The regional dex is 451 pokemon long (including the obligatory Mewtwo)

Excluding legendaries, that means this game essentially has as many pokemon as the first four generations combined.

GodDAMN

Adding the rumored 70 to the current 720 and subtracting from 451, that leaves roughly 340 pokemon not in. Leaves just enough to revisit an entire region, if you ask me.
