Why hasn't a full Pokemon game appeared on a Nintendo home console yet?

I'm a bit surprised that these games still only appear on the handhelds, why is this? I'm sure there are a lot of people out there like myself who only play in their home. I never take my 3ds out for the risk of losing it and/or damaging it, etc.

Have they ever spoken about this or is it simply the fact that it started on a portable and they see no reason to change it up? I imagine it has to do with stuff like trading and battling but couldn't that be done easily now with the Wii/U's online capability?

And yeah, I know other Pokemon games have appeared on the main consoles but they've been variations of the game and nothing like these...

It has. Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness was for Nintendo GameCube, and it was a full, standalone game. Mirror B is the best pokemon villain ever.
I love Idoun and am 100% proud of it! If you too are a Idoun believer, copy and paste this into your Sig.

there were two on gamecube.

also, they made it clear, main games are handheld only because you're actually still supposed to walk around with them and play with people on the go (which obviously works better in japan)

Colosseum and XD were full length real Pokemon games, they just featured a unique method of capturing Pokemon, and they focused on double battles.

Home systems aren't as portable as handheld systems and Pokemon is mostly about interaction between people. I know we have the internet now for interaction, but to go out and physically meet people, a handheld is the better choice.

Can't find the source but I remember a Masuda interview (or maybe it was Tajiri) saying that Pokemon would always be for the handheld systems because of the social aspect, so you can battle / trade with anyone anywhere
