does it work better than EV training the old way?

It's slower but super training is better if you're looking for a specific EV build and not the basic 252/252/4.

In normal training, the most you can get is 12 EVs if your Pokemon has the correct Power item and Pokerus.
In Super training, the most you can get is 24 with Double-up Bag.

I recommend Super Training, because it's fun and you don't need a lot of set-up.

Horde training is better than both if you're not looking for the basic 252/252/4 spread

And even then you can incorporate a bit of horde battling into it as well.
