I would make it resist Water and Flying.

Freeze Dry, Ice Beam, Ice Shard and Icicle Crash are fine moves.

It needs resistances and better representatives.

The ice type is made to be a glass cannon and yet dumbfreak who has no idea how their own metagame works have made only useless defensive ice types.

Here's a list of a the useless ice types:

Glalie: Crappy stats, NU
Regice: Crappy stats, NU
Glaceon: outclassed to oblivion by all the other eeveelutions except Flareon, NU
Vaniluxe: Slow and frail, NU
Beartic: Slow and frail, NU
Cryogonal: Can maybe take a special hit, but even resisted physical attacks kills it, slow, RU
Avalugg: With his stats, any other type would be instant OU, but Avalugg is plagued by them and is largely outclassed by many other physical walls.
Jynx: Slow and frail, NU
Articuno: Defensive ice type, NU
Delibird: Nothing to say here, NU
Walrein: Was only kinda cool because stallrein, but still defensive and NU
Dewgong: Bad stats, NU
Lapras: Bad stat distribution, NU
Aurorus: Bad stat distribution, bad typing, bad movepool, slow, frail, insufficient offense, proof that Gamefreak will never learn with those ice types.

The less useless but still majorely outclassed:

Abomasnow: Only somewhat used because of snow warning, useless otherwise. UU
Kyurem: 660 BST and still not OU material, BL/UU

The are overall pretty much 4 good ice types:

Weavile: He's what they're supposed to be. A glass cannon. He's fast so he can attack before getting hit and die.
Froslass: Same. She's fast and has great utility options.
Mamoswine: Slow, but has priority and can set stealth rocks. He's built to be bulky but he really isnt because he has way too many weaknesses.
Cloyster: Shell Smash makes him a sweeper and he has an OP ability.
Bow-ties are cool.

No Immunities, only resists itself, four weakness to common move types. It's so bad defensively it cancels out most of the offensive merits Ice STAB brings.

Slow? The thing has a base speed of 105!!

I mostly agree with the rest though. Either fix the type match-ups to make them defensive like GameFreak apparently wants them to be, or just make the glass cannons that the typing currently desperately wants.

How I think the Ice type should be balanced:

- Give them resistance to Water & Grass moves

- Defense gets boosted by 50% in Hail

- Ice type attacks that hit while Hail is up have a 10% bonus chance to freeze (whether the ice type move can or cannot). So, for example, Ice Beam + Ice Fang both have a 20% chance to freeze while Hail is active.

- Introduce a move that guarantees the freeze status, but make it have 70% accuracy. Give it 5 PP. If it misses, the user suffers a -2 stage accuracy drop.

To balance out the new Ice type buffs, we simply:

- Make all damaging Fire type moves thaw the user if frozen.

- In double and triple battles, an ally can "break" you out of the frozen status by using a damaging Fighting type or Steel type move on the frozen pokemon (same applies to using damaging Fire type moves).

- Being frozen for a random number of turns now only lasts 3 turns. You cannot, however, thaw out normally any sooner than 3 turns.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My opinion of course.

They get a 100% STAB boost on all Ice type moves.

Screw Water types.

That would be a bad idea. Just give it 60% accuracy with no side effects for missing.

Replace the "Ice type" on all pokemon that have it with "Water type".
