I have had Red Gyarados consistently since Gen 2. To me they are hardly "unique". As they should be. Blue Gyara is the new shiny.

Speaking of which, how has this Gen been to Gyara? This is the only game I have not caught and used a Gyarados when available. Still a monster?

Red Gyarados is pretty annoying. It means you lose value if you evolve your shiny magikarp.

Mega Gyarados can use several bulky sets with the +30/30 defenses it gets with mold breaker, along with the +30 attack
One set I've seen was
Rest
Sleep Talk
Dragon Dance
Waterfall

Thanks to chain fishing though, even shiny Magikarp isn't worth much anymore.
