I am just curious, because the icon is supposed to be above and more powerful than the idol in terms of the history of these words.

The icon is something that points to the sovereign (and, truly, the word came about as in that which points to the direction of God).

The idol is something that imitates the sovereign (and, truly, the word came about as in that which pretends to be a God).

I know this may be silly, but I do think it is interesting it gets treated like this on the website, and thought to provide this in terms of just doing justice to these words.

Thanks for listening!

I don't see why this really matters.

Also since when is GameFAQs religious?

They aren't just religious terms though. Their origins lie in religion, as does a large factor of almost everything.

The word bye is a reduction of the phrase "God be with you."

Also I am not religious. I just found it to literally be misusing the words, so thought it was worthy of note.

Because that's how CJayC set it up back in the day and there's no real reason to change it
Don't try to think we can understand each other. For some reason, people think that they can do that. Remember that they can't. Never completely. Never enough.

Technically, the suggestion is to swap these two ranks, and it is part of the site...

That's probably why -- gods outrank prophets.
My NES, SNES, and GB all work just fine. Who cares about graphics when the gameplay is awesome?

Idol comes after icon in the dictionary.

So too must it come in GameFAQs.

Haha, sorry, I did not mean to come off combative. I only offered it up because I personally found it interesting.

I do consider GameFAQs to be a fun and eclectic space for all types of gamers to talk games and even their social lives on the social boards.

Indeed, the decision could have been arbitrary. However, the word has been bastardized in pop culture because mass public came to celebrate the word idol as interchangeable with celebrity. How that happened, I do not know. But historically idols were used as an insult, and power was granted to those who can be an icon. This is interwoven with sovereignty, and why it has traces in religion.

But we also use icon and idol in very mundane ways to mean the same thing. So, knowing that, I didn't think my suggestion was unwarranted; I hope it did spark some fun conversation or maybe a way to talk about how the levels are named and what hierarchy they may (or may not) represent.

So, I apologize if I came off combative. I do hope it is a worthy suggestion and something to consider though!

Also, here are two sources so you do not think I am just spewing crap:
