Gotta agree these so called swords of legend suck in comparison to witcher gear. It would of been kinda cool if you had a make your own blade type thing system

Are named swords completely random loot?

Most of them are but there are a few unique ones. Problem is once you reacher higher levels they become scrap metal.

Like Grizluck's amazing and hilarious post, Winter's Blade is unique but it's a level 17? sword so if you're already high enough level it's damn useless.

Got it. Thanks!
Don't judge me, monkey.

This is an issue with many RPGs these days. loot/quest rewards just aren't useful or satisfying in modern RPG games. I recently played through FF7 again, and like every 3-4 hours or something, i'd get some new weapons for my team, and they were almost always an upgrade and always useful. You are constantly given new weapons/gear that are actual upgrades that you use, and then you finally get your ultimate weapons. There is a consistent weapon/item upgrade progression throughout the game where you are always finding new cool swords and weapons and what not that you actually use.

in this game (and most other modern RPGs), 99% of the weapons and armor are completely and utterly useless. You find your first witcher set at like level 10 or something, and you can just upgrade that set throughout the whole game without any issues or problems or anything, and the damage you do is generally always superior to anything else you will find such as named swords or specific chest pieces and what not you find.

it's just one of those things we got to deal with right now in how RPGs handle gear.

Are you sure you're not getting linear RPG mixed up with open world RPG? In the former, your progression is restricted by a linear path while in open world games there's a lot of exploration you can do. There has to be some kind of equipment balance/check other wise it gets really broken.

Take a look at the Elder Scroll series, in Morrowind it was too damn easy to grab an overpowered artifact and just snooze through the game. In Oblivion and Skyrim, they made it so that equipments are what level you pick it at which makes it harder to break the game even though they try to implement balance in such a stupid method.

IMO, the only random blade worth picking up is Tir Tochair at 50 crit dmg, 5% chance crit & 35% bleed.

Wait till you're at max level before looting the ?s in Skellige.

Thanks m8.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
