We all know that there was a first game in the series, and we loved it. Then the second game came out, and it was arguably even better. Of course, there was kind of an interquel between the two, but that was just a GBA game intended to fill the gap and give us some plot exposition until the second game.

It has been over ten years since then. Really the only game you could remotely make an argument for being good is Birth by Sleep, and even that's questionable. The rest have been a sequence of unusual spinoffs or remasters. Kingdom Hearts III feels distant enough into the future that it might as well be vaporware. How did this series have such a strong beginning, only to collapse into the state it's in today?
