There was this sidescrolling shooter that seemed to really take influence from Robotech. The robot could go from flying fighter to running mech. I know there's a game called Transformer by Sega that pretty much already fits what I've described, only that's not the one. It was another game. Anyone know?

Are ya shure it wasn't Side Arms? : P
Transbot would alot be closer to your discription, but that was a SMS game.
Both games were released in the 80's.

Is it possibly Aeroboto, aka Formation Z?
Emulation's main purpose is educational, as it is to prevent many historical games from sinking into oblivion once the hardware they run on stops working...
