Do you lower everything until you can get 60+ at native resolution? Or do you go for more graphical effects at a lower frame rate? Obviously this only applies to machines that can't max every game at 120fps.
So it goes.

Set on very high with shadows and huge perfomance decreasers on low, then see what if i like what i get. Then slowly up those settings until the framerate is dumb, then tone it down a bit.

As close to 120 as I can get. I've got a 560ti 448 so I can't max everything, but I can get it near enough that minor adjustments will let me hit that mark.

It depends on the game. Some games I'm fine with them at 20-30 fps because they're low on action anyway... other games I need 60FPS at the minimum.... mostly I just aim for "smooth gameplay". If I notice the framerate is dropping (or being unstable) then that's a failure. If I don't notice it, then it doesn't really matter what it is.

If the bullets take a minute to hit target, I turn some settings down.

It depends on the game but I usually want 55+ FPS rate. & I'll be happy, I'll usually tinker w/ demanding settings & mix & match em w/ others to get the best results.

It feels like I spend more time switching back and forth to the settings menu than actually playing my games. I guess with a little more PC gaming experience I'll learn which settings have the biggest impact on performance. On average, how many fps could I add by overclocking my CPU and gpu?
So it goes.

I just try to keep my minimum FPS above 25. I usually don't mind 30 fps that much if it's constant.
