I have a Phenom II 720 with 4 cores overclocked to 3.4ghz. I can probably get away with 3.5, but I got an error in Prime95 after about 40 minutes, so I went back to 3.4.

I just ordered a GTX 480 for $199. I'm reading that it's quite fast, especially for the price, but it's noisy and hot, which I think I'm probably okay with.

I just thought I'd check here and see what you all thought about it. I plan to build a full new system in about a year or two, depending on how well this new vid card treats me and the upcoming games.

What do you think? Should I feel good about my purchase, or should I consider paying a shipping cost for a refund and look at something else?

I'm not ready to spend $800-$1000 for a new system.

you should always feel good about your purchases initially, although depending on your psu and case situation, you may have a ton of remorse soon.

My PSU is good, and my case airflow is good.

I guess worst case scenario is that it's not working out and I can do the Step Up through EVGA for a different card, eh?

The 480 is great, I'd worry more about the processor in this case.

Bottleneck? Even at 3.4-3.5ghz? That's not going to cut it? I'm coming from a 4890. Will I not see much of a noticeable increase?
