They'll run about as well as with Vista, possibly 3% faster or something. In practice the difference would be insignificant with modern hardware. Get W7 though, especially if it's cheaper - trust me you'll be glad in the end when you're not dealing with a OS made for touchscreens and children.

The D: partition will not be affected by your upgrade, so just back up anything on C: and go for it.

There's that thing where they say 'only the every 2nd Windows OS is actually good. Vista was horrible, 7 was good, 8 is terrible. You are going from bad to bad. Hope that money you are saving is worth having your PC being run by bad.

I'm going to get harassed for saying this and you seem to have made your mind up already but ignore everyone complaining about how "bad" Windows 8 is until you've tried it for yourself.

As you have previously said its cheaper and me and all my friends who previously used 7 prefer 8, I really don't understand all the hate towards it.

Before anyone replies to me and goes "Touch Screen, herp derp" I totally disagree and think the new start screen is a fantastic addition.

So far I am enjoying it, even with Start. Granted I have an application for chrome (Awesome tabs) that makes my new tab screen like Metro so I am somewhat used to it but I find it convenient having all my stuff there. Plus I can easily get to the desktop, and whilst there is no start menu, I have created shortcuts to all the stuff I would normally use from Desktop/Start Menu

As for touch scren, I have none but I can navigate with the mouse and keyboard okay.

Well I am loving it so far, and in terms of gaming, I used Dungeon Defenders as a baseline. It was somewhat slow on 1024*800 (High settings) on Vista, but here it runs smoothly and crisply, even better than the 360 equivalent. I am really impressed so far with my experience. I downloaded Classic Shell too, so I have startbar functionality, not that it was a major thing missing.

Even on Startup/Shutdown I am noticing a massive difference in times. On Vista, I had it to under two minutes but that was due to using a lot of tweaking by utilising Auslogics, here it boots in under a minute or so, it is excellent.

Windows 8 has been good for me. The only thing i don't like about it, the task bar, was a win7 change. It's just another case of don't listen to people on the internet about computers.

I suppose the only other question I have is, is there a program that will scan all of my devices (sound controller, network card, graphics card etc...) to make sure that they are all up to date?
