I really liked shooters from 1998 to 2006, then they went downhill.

IMO, anything before 1998 was too primitive for me to enjoy, and anything after around 2006 was decline popamole ****.

Golden Age:

Half-Life 1 + Expansions
Unreal 1
Deus Ex
System Shock 2
Unreal 2 (I know, I know, but I enjoyed the multiplayer immensely)
Unreal Tournament 2004
Doom 3
Far Cry 1
Half-Life 2 + Expansions
Battlefield 2
FEAR + Expansions

I guess the STALKER games are outliers of this 1998-2006 range, but I think the golden age was then.

Opposite for me. Call of Duty 4/World at War is what got me into FPS. I disliked FPS before that, now I even enjoy old FPS like Quake.

UT2004 is easily my favorite shooter.

Some modern shooters are good, but most of them seem pretty generic.

Oh dear lord, this. I remember playing UT2004 ALL the time when I was a little bit younger with my father and his clan members. I always had a huge blast playing with them. Game will always have a special place in my heart.

UT99 is my favourite of the bunch.

I don't care what anyone thinks, I think Iron sight mechanics are awful.

The golden age started on the N64 with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. They took FPSers to a whole new level.

Really wasn't that good.

Unnecessary campaign.
Less game modes
Less maps (4-6 CTF maps at launch?)
Graphics were muddy, lacked colour.

Not to mention being unable to play as Malcolm, what the hell?
