So...should I go for the USB adapter or the card? I'm getting mixed opinions, and with my lack of knowledge regarding computers, am not sure what to do.

It doesn't make a difference really. Go with USB for the convenience of not needing to open the case.

Edit: On second thought, I'd go with the PCI card if you don't have USB 2.0.
1.1 is extremely slow and might limit your download/upload speed depending on how fast your connection is.

and I have absolutely no issues completely saturating a 20 Mbps connection.
If AMD goes down Intel might safely release i9 for $300 and i7 for $200 and i5 for $100 and i3 for free. - su27Chaos
