It's not so new anymore, but Sid Meier's Pirates! is great.

Far Cry 3 fully maxed will tickle your fancy. It's fully open world and far exceeded all my expectations.

Skyrimm modded out also amazing. Really artistic and beautiful but the gameplay can't hang with that of Far Cry 3.

X3: Terran Conflict. Space combat/trade simulator. Want to fly about in a fighter? Sure. Trade? No problem. Build space stations and produce your own goods? Certainly. Build up a giant fleet and kill everything you see in the universe? Easy as eating pancakes.

Came in to recommend this, doesn't get much better as far as a sandbox style game goes.

You could try starmade it is currently free to play as it isint finished it is essentially minecraft in space where you can build your ship and actually fly it and have it shoot as well. Other than that modding a game or some game with a level editor (ie portal 2 or disney infinity) is the only other choice not mentioned for a true sandbox game. Also project spark which isnt out yet looks pretty promising or you can look into the myriad of minecraft clones.

Grand Theft Auto 4

Bad recommendation. When someone has a new PC, they want to see a pretty game running flawlessly. GTA 4 doesn't run flawlessly on any machine. So he'll see it running 40fps and be wondering if he just wasted his money.

So care to explain why I get a consistent 55-60 fps even with texture mods and iCEnhancer?

Because your nose is about 2 feet long.

I can get a steady 50 frames with a modded gta iv as well. At least for an hour or so until a very annoying memory leak kicks in & road textures stop loading and the game slows to a crawl. But until that happens it looks great.

That said, you can't go wrong with skyrim.

Sleeping Dogs it is then. Anyone know if Tomb Raider is well optimized for PCs?
Hi-fi? As in, high in fiber?
