"For Blizzard it makes sense [to go free-to-play] at some point. But a lot of the risk is in making that transition. You hear stories about developers going free-to-play and getting double the number of players, but you don't always know it works out that way and how long it stays that way. We really don't know what the rate is before people drop off and lose interest."

I think it would work if they went more toward Guild War 2's F2P model, where you have to buy the base game but with no monthly fee. Just keep offering the same high quality expansions.

I'd hate to see them go totally F2P like Star Wars The Old Republic went, the game just lost something to me after it went that far into F2P (though, I will admit it barely had me to begin with.. why did I preoorder it)

I wouldn't play it again if it was free. It's broken now.

I'd like 1 - 60 content to be free, at least.

They would have to drop a lot more subscribers. If they did make the switch, i think it would be in coordination with dropping the majority of support. The problem wow faces isn't getting new players like for other mmos, it's that everybody interested in wow has already played. Going f2p just isn't going to do anything.

Not interested. Even if it was completely free.

I'd play again when it happens, if only to sell off the rest of my millions of gold I didn't manage to get rid of before my sub expired.

Hopefully it doesn't go the ghotan city impostors route. Hated that I purchases the game earlier during the year only for it to go free to play.

Suddenly I couldn't play with people that use the free to play version. Then I couldn't.find anyone to play with on the payed version. Really regretted purchasing it.

They've been doing microtransactions for years already. What's there to lose by going f2p? They can easily have stuff like raids more limited to free players, limits on the auction house, and stuff like that to where paying gets you first class treatment and free is the base game with whatever you buy extra but some features are more restricted.

Sony with Everquest recently did a "progression" server where they ran the game without any content updates or expansions, and as milestones were met they would add the next expansions content.

It would be wonderful if Blizzard would do this with WoW. Really though, hosting classic servers alone would probably bring people back who loved the game at X update.

It's a shame. Dark Age of Camelot has classic servers. I can only imagine how well SWG would be doing if they had one too, pre CU/NGE.
