well torrents are p2p but not all p2p is torrents, obviously.

It is nice when downloading games or large patches for games because it offloads a lot of stress from the developer's servers allowing you to download the data quickly right away when everyone else is trying to download the data.

I remember when Diablo 3 came out I was getting twice the speed from the p2p part of the download as I was from Blizzard's servers.
