single player? A pretty boring railshooter. Like more modern military shooters.

Multi? You're going to die a fair bit until you learn how to play.

Stay out of Metro conquest. Follow people around, drop medpacks/ammo crates and don't run around in the open like a bambi. You'll do fine.

And no Virginia, you are not a sniper.
If they asked how I died tell them: Still angry.

Gear? Don't be silly, everyone starts with the M16 as long as you stick to the US side.

Everyone has awesome vehicles.

Good luck getting a foothold in air combat. :)

Like others said, kind of play support until you learn your way around and get some unlocks.

Stick with the same kit for awhile starting out. Medic/Assault is the easiest to pick up on, as it gets the "Best" (Read: Easiest to use) weapons, a medkit to heal themselves, and can revive which gives a lot of extra points early on.

Starting out, I personally suggest switching to the first weapon you unlock for your kit (Ie, for Medic start using the M416 when you get it). It may not be objectively better, BUT, you can use it regardless of which faction you're playing on and familiarize yourself with the weapon better, as well as get a sight and attachment you want for it right off. Much better than being split between two weapons until you get your Service Star for each kit.

And yes, you will be stomped pretty hard early on. Sticking in squads and just following along to support is the best option. Pay attention to what they're doing, and you'll get the hang of things fairly quick.

just find a server with a lot of noobs on it

i've been playing on a 64 player server run by some clan called SkL. it's pretty good if you can play at a time when the clan members (who are allowed to be on the server no matter what rank they are) aren't stacking on one side for easy wins, which is total bs
