No, there's no signal conversion going on, and even if there was, it would be digital to digital. But it's the same signal anyway.

Hahaha, yeah, okay, buddy. Unless you're using a 30 feet cable, almost any HDMI cable will be perfect.

DVI and HDMI are the exact same thing aside from audio. Feel free to google this, since you really should have done that in the first place. This answer is all over the place.
